We're growing more stripes. As we get closer to retirement, I told my wife we should ease up on our frugal ways and start to buy some luxury.. We have a good retirement planned and funded. These last few years are just gravy.
But we seem to be gripping every dollar tighter and tighter. I need a new car but I can't find anything I like. So I'm going to spend on on my old car and hope she lasts until official retirement. My wife needs new earrings and we shop and shop. She likes nothing.
I don't know if it's an unconscious fear of spending money when soon we won't have a paycheck or we're just unable to splurge after a lifetime of frugality.
I think after a year or two of retirement, and hopefully a fatter wallet than when we retired, we'll loosen the purse strings.
