Are there any common cases where an ETF or mutual fund has holdings in multiple foreign countries but where it's not appropriate to use "RIC"?

If you look at the back of your 1099, you should see a section on foreign source income. All the symbols say "RIC" on mine. Now, if you hold something in a foreign brokerage account, I don't know how that works.
