Vanguard PAS is great for folks who either don't want to, or can't, manage a simple 3-fund portfolio. If you are going to get an advisor, it's the cheapest option out there and at least you know they aren't going to sell you some high-commission product.Should I leave Vanguard? I have already left Vanguard PA over their demand that I should have 35% in international funds if I continued in Vanguard PA under their new plans.
I think PAS is great for a person who has no interest in investing and won't invest at all unless they have someone doing it for them, or the type of person who would go all cash the second the market drops. In that case, you're still better off paying the 0.3% AUM. It can also be great for people who are just starting out to show them how easy and simple the 3/4 fund portfolio is. Once they get their sea legs, they can cancel PAS and manage the portfolio on their own.
But if you have discipline and can stay the course, I see no point in giving money to Vanguard to put you into a cookie cutter portfolio. The same can be true for so many other advisors. A lot of non-Bogleheads think their "money guy" who is charging them 1%+ AUM is giving them special, personalized advice, when in reality they are in the same cookie cutter portfolio as every other client that person has. Advisors can have their place in certain circumstances, but not all. Vanguard is certainly the best if that's the route you want to go.
