I had trays of engineer/architect mechanical pencils, german fine tip markers, etc. I did engineering and architectural work on large "vellum" on drafting tables before CADD came along. Real "blue" prints.I make cards, among other things, and send my BFF a homemade , handwritten card every day. We send emails, too. I like making nice cards.
For pens, I favor a few certain types. I like black ink for home stuff, purple for my correspondence (if it will work--depends on the surface).
My husband and I are both engineers--don't even get me started on an engineer's love affair with mechanical pencils.
Now I want a fountain pen. I haven't used one for ages, but I love them. I think I'll treat myself.
Fairly inexpensive and trouble free.
Avail. Amazon. Great return policy if you get one with a "scratchy nib" or "leaky feed", etc.
Lamy 2000 (hooded nib does not dry out), Choice of nib. A very popular reliable "go to" fountain pen at a reasonable price.
Lamy Safari Vista Demonstrator (clear body so you can see what color is in the pen). Choice of nib.
Lamy Joy Caligraphy (get the converter for bottled ink use, a few dollars more). Broad nib size 1.1. and 1.5
Inexpensive and great for your card making.
TWSBI. The Diamond 580 ALR feels like the larger german engineering/architect drafting pens. Smaller models for smaller hands in other models.
Twsbi, thru amazon sale, has a great return policy.
Reliable Inks: (water soluble, most have lubricant added for smoother feed and writing)
Avail. Amazo.
Sheafer Blue, Blue black, Black (will feed on pens that feed too slow)
Diamine (reliable)
Iroshizuku (from japan, deep colors)
Pilot (from japan)
A pen for each color ink.
Have fun.
