It isn't really because net worth doesn't include the value of future cash flows from employment which you forgo when you retire.The net worth of 2.3M will put you on the list of top 2% of US population. A net worth of 5.8M will put on the list of top 1% of US population. It is absurd to hear that you need to be close to 1% of the US population to consider early retirement.
