I personally realized a long time ago I was undervaluing my own time when seeking out bargains on small ticket items. I do think it is important to have good shopping habits, but I also think it is important to have good time management habits, and I was prioritizing the former too much over the latter.
So at this point, mostly I just look for used stuff on the Bay. With very rare exceptions, I only do it if I know the item in question is a quality built sort of product, and the seller has good ratings, and there is a reasonable Buy it Now price. This takes very little additional time over just buying new, so I am OK with that process even valuing my time appropriately.
