In network and out of network wasn't actually the issue here, and as I stated before, many states actually have rules in place to protect patients in these situations, even for non-emergency procedures.

It's true the laws exist but they have loopholes the size of Texas in them. Most insurance policies through employers are self funded plans that are exempt from all these protections so the law as it exists is useless. I learned this fact only recently,
