I just remodeled/refurbished my kitchen. Nothing structurally changed. Basically a replacement of major omponents. I d a budget and only went over a few grand.

Things to do

1) have a firm budget. Now your absolute max and don’t budge. Setting limits is a necessary skill otherwise you will overspend.
2). Understand what else you will need to give up in order to do so.
3). Have a firm list of priorities from highest to lowest. My priorities were cabinets and countertops. I went lower end on flooring and lighting. Plumbing was revamped to code. Kept 2 out of 3 appliances.
4. Don’t let a designer push you. This is your project and home. Mine tried to get me to go for the higher end cabinets but I kkept to budget and it turned out well. I wouldn’t be happier today if I had gone higher end.

Things to know
1) use a good design firm with excellent reputation for skill and ability to keep a schedule.
2) this will be painful. Dirt, dust and mess will prevail in your home and get EVERYWHERE!
3) will you want to live in house - if so be prepared for short tempers.
4) consider going for good enough and not absolutely love.
