Would love some insight/advice on which investments to choose for my 401k. I feel like my employer (through TIAA) has limited options. I work in higher education and in five years they do a 2 to 1 match (10% to 5%). I'm currently 34. Thank you!!

I am thinking heavy on S&P 500 (TISPX) with a little international (VTMGX). Keep it simple. Any other suggestions? You'll see what they have me in at the bottom.

Agree. Keep it simple for your Lazy Portfolio. As others have mentioned, you have great options. Therefore, we could retitle your post heading from this...

A simple, low cost lazy portfolio would be to use these four funds, and keep your AA at 90% Equity/10% Bonds. Personally, for the US portion of the portfolio, I would advocate that you approximate the Total US Stock Market by using a combination of the S&P 500 and Small Cap funds (85% in S&P/15% in Small Cap). AA could be tweaked regarding how much in US vs. International, but for simplicity's sake this example uses 20% in international.

60%: TIAA-CREF S&P 500 Index Fund (Institutional)[TISPX] (.05)
10%: Vanguard Small-Cap Index Fund Admiral[VSMAX] (.05)
20%: Vanguard Developed Markets Index Fund Admiral[VTMGX] (.07)
10%: TIAA-CREF Bond Index Fund (Institutional)[TBIIX] (.07)
