Personal Investments • Roast my VUL vs Taxable Brokerage Comparison

VULs typically offer a range of Mutual Funds to choose from. Also called subaccounts. The cash value is invested directly in these, unlike other "General Account" insurance products. I thought it was a reasonable assumption, given that the net return is lower.
