Personal Consumer Issues • My Dad seems lost in retirement. How to support?

Have you considered that maybe he isn’t lost or in a funk, but is doing exactly what he wants to do? Why do you feel the need to tell him what a relaxing retirement looks like? Is he asking for your “help”?
The OP says his Dad is drinking too much (and, presumably, more than he used too) and that the booze is interacting poorly with his medications, and that what has been happening is causing stress for his mother and others -- this does not sound like a situation that warrants a "hands-off" approach. It sounds to me as though counseling might help -- not sure how to go about getting that going though -- is an honest talk with him a possibility?
Right, that's generally the concern. But he's your standard "stubborn old man"...suggesting counseling would not go over well. I tried to get him engaged with some prior hobbies/interests, but that hasn't gone anywhere.
