I have never bought an ETF before. The iShares iBond ETFs are available to me through the Schwab SDB. I don't know how to buy ETFs. (never bought individual stocks, either, but I guess it works same way?) I enter a total value that I want to buy and I guess the platform goes out into the market to see if these are available? Are there new shares sold by the issuer, or do I have to buy them from current owners of shares who want to sell?
AND, I would be planning to hold these ETFs until maturity, and then buy another year/rung. But if I did need to sell, how does selling an ETF work? Would the issuer buy the shares from me, or does there have to be someone out there somewhere in the marketland who wants my shares and buys them from me? Purpose is to keep the ladder going, or use the matured rungs (which are redeemed by the issuer as cash) for my expenses, but I might want to sell the ETFs if I stop working totally and then want to do the rollover and buy Treasury notes for this ladder.
