Both parks are insanely crowded. The weather is pretty bad in the Smokies 9 or 10 months of the year. Go to Yosemite but just be prepared for the crowds. If you really want to go backpacking, go to one of the many dozen national forests and have a much better time.

How is the weather "pretty bad" in the Smoky Mountains 9-10 months of the year? That is simply not true at all.

There are one or two months of nice weather each in the spring and fall. The winter is very cold and the summer is hot and humid. 9 months or so of the year the weather is awful. I live very close by and have been dozens of times on multi-overnight backpacking trips. I guarantee I know far more about the park and weather patterns than you do. My point is that the weather sucks far more often than in Yosemite.
