Maybe door dings don't get reported but the only times we have had insurance involved is when the other driver hit our vehicles in a parking lot. So our insurance didn't pay for the damage; the at-fault driver's insurance paid for the damage.
I don't know the stats on garaged vehicles, but in our neighborhood lots are vehicles are parked in driveways and on the stree and are not garaged.
