Check with the state DMV. In my state probate is voluntary and many or most estates are settled without it. The DMV has a relatively simple procedure to transfer title with an affidavit and copy of the will. Your situation is already in the probate process, but if the car inheritance is uncontested it may not take that long to achieve the title transfer. You can insure it after that.
