I have only seen the download of the DAF Grants as cash withdrawals, which doesn't really help. I currently track the holdings - so I need to have Sold transactions for the securities and then withdrawal of the grant. What I currently do is occasionally login, go to "History" -> "Statements and Confirmations -> "Grant Confirmations" tab and enter the sales and then a withdrawal.
Since I only do this every few months to true-up the balance, I guess I don't care as much about it being 100% accurate than I thought I did. Your question has me considering reducing my Quicken workload slightly by converting to just holding Cash in Quicken and letting the transaction downloads lower balance. This way I can see the balance - but would need to look online to check the holdings. I will consider if this is a simplification to "good enough" in Quicken.
You made me think. I do have my DAF account entered as a "separate" account, so Quicken doesn't include it in my net worth. I think I will turn downloads back on and see how that works before converting fully.
I would love to hear if anyone does it differently or has a different experience with downloads.
