Personal Consumer Issues • Leave a medical provider over scheduling difficulty and provider cancellations

OP I'll start off saying I completely commiserate. I'm struggling pretty bad with access to quality health care, but I'll spare hijacking your thread.

If you're looking for buy-in on switching providers (both the pediatric dentists as well as neuro for your mom), I say go for it.

Re: your mom's timely access to a good neuro who won't keep canceling/postponing for MONTHS... is there a way you can double-dip? In other words, try to shop around for another good neurologist who can actually see her? While "if" the super good neurologist who seems to not be available is around, then consider it icing on the cake?

I saw a neurology group several years ago (with 4-5 neurologists with different specializations and interests), and it was mostly a good experience. I felt heard and listened to, and I felt like I finally was talking to the right type of doctor for multiple issues under one roof.

Here in my current area, I got bait-and-switched pretty bad by one neurologist when his neurologist daughter with the same name walked in to my surprise. And didn't have the same experience or expertise, and then they added on a couple hundred $$$ to the $350 cash price "pay in full" that we agreed on. And many other issues.

At risk of ranting, to keep this personable and actionable: yeah, I'm on board with you trying to find better pediatric dentists for the children and more available neurologists for your mother. If you can still keep the "top" neuro while also seeing another neuro, that might save months of time and frustration. Disease progression doesn't care one bit about health care bureaucracy and other shenanigans; you gotta keep fighting and pushing forward when time is of the essence.

tl;dr keep the "top" neuro person if they really are that good (but keep cancelling) but also shop around for more neurologists and just see multiple.
