2FAS backs up to Google Drive (if you enable that option). If you lose your phone or it breaks, buy another, connect your 2FAS account and you have access to all your codes again. True, it does not provide desktop-only access. In my particular situation, I did not need desktop access, but Authy Desktop happened to be the way I was aware of to have a backup in case my phone broke (without having any other device available like an ipad or a second phone). With 2FAS, the process to enter a code can only be started in the 2FAS browser extension, you still need a phone to complete the action. So, if you misplace or lose your phone, or if your phone breaks, you can lose access to your accounts.
That looks like a good solution for those who do want desktop access to codes without fumbling with the phone.Ente Auth allows you to log into your Ente Auth webpage and copy your 2FA codes to input into a log-in site. You don't need your phone to complete the code entry. Very handy to use on a PC or laptop.
Yes, you do need your phone to add/delete/import/export 2FA codes. But, once set up, you can easily access your codes from the Ente Auth website without your phone.
On most web browsers, you can install a website “as an app” or “as a shortcut”. Do this and put the Ente Auth icon on your taskbar. Make the Ente Auth site that pops open from the icon into a small window to mimic the desktop functionality of Authy.
I've been testing Ente Auth for my situation, and so far, it seems to be very solid and easy to use.
The Ente Auth phone app is nice too. It's cross-platform, which can be a plus.
