Thanks; I didn't know that. It seems like it would be convenient to have email and a domain at the same provider, although I've never had that for my own domain and email.Google got out / is getting out of the domain business.I'd say there's near-enough-to-zero chance of a major domain provider having problems that would impact you in any way.The recent email thread got me interested in the benefits of owning your own domain so you aren't beholden to some company that could cut you off at any time.
What is the best place to buy a domain? GoDaddy is ubiquitous but seems to push a lot of expensive add ons. Cloudflare claims they sell it "at cost" which seems nice.
Is there any risk of having a domain through one of these companies if they suddenly go out of business?
Once you have your domain, who do you use for e-mail? Google seems to have the best spam filtering. I already have iCloud plus, so I can add a custom domain cheaply, but my iCloud email seems to have a ton of spam (though I never use the email).
I use Google for my domain's email but it's expensive per user, so you have to say how many users you want/need. If you use Google for your email maybe get the domain there too.
