Many of us have put together a "death file" explaining what accounts exist etc. You could put a physical copy in a secure drawer or safe at home and another in a bank safe deposit box. The problem, of course, is that the harder it is for YOU to access these locations, the less likely that you will keep them up to date.

One option is that some password managers have a feature where, if you buy a multi-user plan, you can share files and other information securely. You could set up a family password manager plan and share your "death file" that way, and update it whenever you need to. (Each family member gets their own login and can use the password manager for their own passwords, without any other family member having access to them unless they are explicitly shared.)

In my "death file" I don't include account numbers, passwords, or anything other details other than which banks and brokerages have which accounts. So even if that file falls into nefarious hands, they couldn't do much with it.
